Homemade Shampoo For Hair Growth

Have you ever wondered what’s lurking in your trusty bottle of shampoo? With the USDA identifying dozens of potentially cancer-causing chemicals in everyday products, including dry shampoos, now would be a good time to check.  If you take a look at the ingredients list, you may be shocked to find chemicals such as formaldehyde, parabens, and sulfates hiding in plain sight! With all the toxic chemicals found in many of today’s leading brands, it’s no wonder that many are beginning to become interested in making homemade shampoo. But what if you could make your own DIY shampoo that’s safe, effective, and actually combats one of the leading beauty concerns most women face today: hair loss?

That’s right—I’m talking about a homemade shampoo for hair growth! Believe it or not, it is possible (and easy!) to learn how to make homemade shampoo that’s not only free of toxic ingredients that can actually hinder hair growth and cause a myriad of other harmful side effects but also promotes hair growth and strength while leaving your scalp feeling clean. And the best part? It calls for less than 10 ingredients and takes only 5 minutes to create!

Why Make Your Own Shampoo?

These days, it can be hard to discern all the potential toxins hiding in your everyday hygiene products. For example, most commercial shampoos contain sulfates, which are the ingredients that cause your shampoo to lather and give you that “clean” feeling. But you may be surprised to learn that sulfates actually strip your hair of its natural moisture, leaving it dry, brittle, and prone to breakage! Even worse, some studies have shown that sulfates can leave residue in some of your major organs, including your heart and brain.

Another example of a toxic chemical likely lurking in your shampoo is a chemical known as paraben. Parabens are quite commonly used as preservatives in many cosmetic items in the U.S. In fact, they’re used in about 85 percent of all cosmetic items—including shampoo, regardless of the fact that they’re known to cause dryness, scalp irritation, and even hair loss! But the major problem with parabens is that they’re known to disrupt the body’s cells and have even been linked to certain types of cancer, such as breast cancer.

While these are just two examples of common toxins in commercial shampoo, the list is much longer and the effects on both your hair and throughout your body are vast. Simply avoiding these toxins is enough reason to consider making your own homemade shampoo—and it’s the primary reason why I believe homemade shampoo is a better alternative to buying commercial brands.

But it’s worth noting that you can also add other ingredients to your homemade shampoo recipe to make sure it’s customized to fit your personal preferences and ensure it’s the best homemade shampoo recipe for you, just as I’ve done with my Homemade Shampoo for Hair Growth recipe. So, let’s take a look at the ingredients I used to give you an idea of how they come together to promote clean, healthy, strong hair.

Hair Growth Shampoo Ingredients

So, you’re likely wondering what’s in the base of this homemade shampoo for hair growth? I use liquid castile soap in my base because it’s known to be sensitive enough for those with certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis, eczema, and even dandruff, but effective at cleaning the scalp while remaining toxin-free. Plus, it’s known to help preserve the natural oils in your hair, helping to prevent damage and breakage while promoting a healthy scalp. As a result, this recipe is also a great homemade shampoo for dry hair.

This hair growth shampoo also contains aloe vera, which is known to support hair growth by fighting dry scalp, dandruff, and hair loss, meaning it’s also effective as a homemade shampoo for dandruff. And research has shown that aloe vera also helps to stimulate blood flow at the scalp, which supports healthy hair follicles. Finally, this incredible ingredient can help to strengthen the hair cuticle, resulting in the appearance of shiny, healthy hair.

Two other key ingredients in this Homemade Shampoo for Hair Growth are rosemary and lemon essential oils. Just as with aloe vera, rosemary oil has been shown to stimulate blood circulation at the scalp while also fighting dandruff and dry scalp. This effect is believed to support the health of hair follicles. Meanwhile, lemon essential oil can help to remove dead skin from the scalp, supporting a healthy scalp while working with the castile soap to leave a clean, residue-free feeling.
